Wanna know what the cutting edge of the American church is? How about a DJ scratching a record on stage, street thugs rapping lyrics about gang violence and Christ, pool tables in the lobby, garage doors on the front of the church… and more bling bling than Mr. T in a diamond mine. Enter the new church Street Life Worldwide in Houston (website God Aint Mad At You). Pastor Levi is a hip hop, passionate leader with a vision to reach the gangs and tough boys of his city… check him out and give him some props.

My wife and I have been having an ongoing conversation concerning the Sabbath. What does it really entail? Do we really slow down, rest, take a load off, or are we just as busy as we are every other day of the week? Most people consider their Sabbath to be either Saturday or Sunday. However, that’s not our reality. Most Saturdays I’m busy preparing a talk to give at K2 the next day. On Sunday I normally arrive at church at 7:30am and take off around 2pm. The rest of the day is filled with additional work or meetings with K2 people. When do I Sabbath? Monday. That’s my day to decompress and let my hair down… all 1/4 inch of it. But here’s the challenge. Do I work around the house? Do I labor on the lawn, detail the car, reroof the house? Or do I REALLY rest. And what does that look like?

Enter Gordon Atkinson’s article on doing nothing. He took an hour one day and simply stared at the sky. Here are his thoughts on what he saw…

This is what sustainability in life is all about.

Today I’m in Orlando with several thousand people for a great emerging church conference called Expotential. Simply amazing.

Exponential is a cross-denominal gathering designed to connect, inspire, equip and challenge church planting leaders. And by the way, Kensington and K2 are getting some airtime for the church planting technique we’re using. How fun!

1. The badness of a movie is directly proportional to the number of helicopters in it.

2. You will never find anybody who can give you a clear and compelling reason why we observe daylight-saving time.

3. You should never say anything to a woman that even remotely suggests you think she’s pregnant unless you can see an actual baby emerging from her at that moment.

4. The one thing that unites all human beings, regardless of age, gender, religion, economic status or ethnic background, is that, deep down inside, we ALL believe that we are above-average drivers.

5. There comes a time when you should stop expecting other people to make a big deal about your birthday. That time is: age 11.

6. There is a very fine line between “hobby” and “mental illness.”

7. If you had to identify, in one word, the reason why the human race has not achieved, and never will achieve, its full potential, that word would be “meetings.”

8. The main accomplishment of almost all organized protests is to annoy people who are not in them.

9. A person who is nice to you, but rude to the waiter/janitor, is not a nice person.

10. No matter what happens, somebody will find a way to take it too seriously.

11. When trouble arises and things look bad, there is always one individual who perceives a solution and is willing to take command. Very often, that individual is crazy.

12. Your true friends love you, anyway.

Jesus Sports Figurines – a quote from their website:

“Handpainted resin statues on a solid wood base are the perfect gift for every young Catholic athlete. These statues portray Jesus actively participating with boys and girls in a variety of sports. A wonderful way to reinforce Jesus “as friend” in everyday activities.”

Humm… I don’t even know what to say.

The bald eagle… mystical, mysterious, magical… it’s more than a raptor… it’s the USA wrapped up in a bird!

On the other hand, here’s one of the coolest things to come out of my home state Arizona. A definite stop when we trek down to visit our family.

A new way to experience the Grand Canyon.
